Gasser joins Barclays in tech strategy role

Gasser has officially joined Barclays’ investment bank in New York as head of strategy for markets pre-trade technology, according to a spokesman.

FN reported in September that Gasser was in talks to join Barclays in an operational-type role that would not be client-facing.

Gasser is known to be close to Barclays’ chief executive Jes Staley. The pair worked together during the 1990s at JP Morgan, where Gasser was head of US equity trading between 1987 and 2001. Staley, an equities trader also, went on to run the investment bank.

Gasser was chief executive of ITG before leaving in 2015.
